I guess we have to call it. Addie Baby’s first word is definitely Dada. She only says Mama when she’s crying and even then it’s not on purpose. It’s more of a hysterical, low wail, “Maaaamaaaamaaamaaamaamaamaaa mewwww” I refuse to accept that as her saying my name.

I’ve been practicing with her for weeks and now. I don’t know where I’ve gone wrong. Lately, here’s what our practice sessions have sounded like:

Me: “Addison, say Mama.”

Me: “Maa Maa…Mama”


Me: “Mama”

Addison: “Mmmm………. Dada.”

Me: …..

Addison: “Dadadadada”
